George better known by his family and friends as "GUD" was born at his grandmas house 3 Manor Road,Maltby,on the 15th April 1933,Gud lived there with his parents Fred and Hilda until they moved to 65 Dunns Dale,Maltby.Gud attended Maltby Craggs Boys School and then secondary school which was known then as The Hall School.As a boy he enjoyed playing football and played cricket with the late Fred Truman,he also kept pigeons and always had a dog by his side.
