Guds first job was with his Uncle Fred delivering Fruit and Veg on his horse and cart until 1948 when at 15 he went to work at Maltby Colliery taking care of the ponies on the pit top,In 1950 at 17 he went to work in the lamp cabin issuing the miners there lamps.1950 was the also the year when he met and started courting Flo there first date was at Maltby Picturehouse on Muglet lane where they saw Richard Todd in THE HASTY HEART.After courting for a year he wanted to earn a better wage so he went to work down the mine which at the time paid around £3 a week.
